Defensive Tactics Instructor | 11/28/2022 - 12/07/2022

Must be currently employed by a law enforcement agency as a peace officer or equivalent as verified by BCTC instructional Staff. All participants should be in good health and have no physical limitations. 

Lecture materials include instructor methodology and techniques, liability, record keeping, and coaching techniques. Special training methods and equipment are covered in both lecture and practical application. This includes the use of heavy bags and protective suits. The practical portion of the course covers stances, footwork, personal body weapons, defenses against common attacks such as punches, kicks, overhead attacks, ground defense and control, carotid restraint, weapon retention and takeaway, and the Rapid Containment Baton (RCB). This course is designed to train instructors in defensive tactics / arrest and control procedure. Students receive POST certification upon successful completion. Technique instruction, student performance and evaluation, as well as testing procedures, will be addressed. Skills activities will occur in the mat room.

For Department members, this class requires a memo approved from their captain.
